Strip Tube Rainbow
Strip Tube Rainbow
A Strip Club Pattern Designed for 2½” Strips!
Designed by Daniela Stout.
Rainbow quilts are all the rage! And we just love Cozy’s option for these fun and inspiring designs! Its best feature is that it is simple and easy. The hardest part is just staying organized! Even that’s not too hard.
We feature the magic of the Tube Technique, making this quilt perfect for the original Strip Tube Ruler(TM) or Strip Tube Junior(TM). See the fabric requirements below and the different samples to the left for more inspiration
The pattern includes instructions for:
• Baby
• Lap
• Throw
• Twin
• Queen
• King
Some tips on picking fabrics:
-
First, figure out what quilt size you want to make. Once you know the size, you’ll know how many blocks go across for the width. This number is also how many columns of different fabrics you’ll need. For example, the Throw has 6 blocks across, so it will need 6 different colors, such as red, blue, purple, yellow, green, and grey.
-
Then, collect your fabrics.
-
You will need an equal number of light and dark prints within a color.
-
Be sure there is a clear definition between light and dark or your blocks will turn from a fun design to a solid square.
-
We recommend using as many different fabrics for variety to keep it scrappy.
-
Leaning on almost-white fabrics for your light will give you lots of contrast in your color columns and an almost airy feeling. For example, see our pictured throw sample with the purple border.
-
Keeping your lights more solid and slightly darker, makes it a more stout and color-filled quilt. For example, see our throw quilt with the black border.
-
But again, be sure there is a clear definition between light and dark so your blocks don’t turn into a solid square.
-
-
If you don't want a scrappy look at all, use the same fabric for all the light with a color. Repeat for the dark strips. For a sample of this look, see the baby sample quilt with the multi-colored border (coming soon).

The full-color instructions give you alternate directions if you don’t have the Strip Tube Ruler or Strip Tube Junior, but we love that tool so much that we think you should just buy it too. :-) Here are links to that Strip Tube Ruler(TM) or Strip Tube Junior(TM). Both will work with this pattern.
